How to remove a virus
Viruses can drastically slow down your computer. But before you start taking actions on removing the virus, you need to first make sure that your device isn’t slow for other reasons such as low storage or corrupt hard drives. If you are getting pop ups or other irregularities on your PC and you cannot find a reason for why your computer is slow, then your machine may be infected with a virus.
The first thing you need to do is reboot your computer in safe mode. Here is a quick tutorial on how to start your computer is safe mode. Safe Mode only loads essential files for windows to run. As most viruses run on start up, Safe Mode should stop most viruses from running. This will make it easy for you identify and remove the virus.
You should already have an Anti-Virus software installed on your device. If not, there are plenty of free ones you could use or try out a free trail for other software. We recommend AVG. After starting your device on Safe Mode, run a full scan with your Anti-virus software and quarantine and/or remove any threats the scan finds.
When you complete the scan and remove any threats, test your machine by rebooting your computer and starting it normally. Check for any abnormalities such as pop ups, computers poor performance or any other issues you may have had. If the problems have been fixed, your infection is gone. congratulations!
If that didn’t work, you can start the long process of removing the virus manually. Or, feel free to bring your machine in to our office where our technicians can have a look and resolve any issues.
